Jeff & Jackie Queen

Jackie & Jeff Queen

Jeff and Jackie Queen joined the LCC in the Fall of 2008 and took the instructional course for new curlers. They moved to Lunenburg in June of 2008, buying the Meisner’s house in Garden Lots. Their son, Cameron, and his wife, Louise, have also moved to Lunenburg and joined the LCC.

The Queens are originally from Scotland where they ran their own pottery business, Glenshee Pottery, located in the hills of Perthshire. They sold the business in 2003 and began exploring the possibility of moving to Canada with a three month ski holiday at Banff. After driving around Cape Breton and most of the Nova Scotian mainland they realised that Lunenburg was where they wanted to live. Although a small town, they felt Lunenburg had many facilities to offer and is in a magnificent coastal setting.

Jeff and Jackie attended and met at Dundee University, Jeff studying economics and Jackie studying education. Jackie taught in Dundee for 10 years before setting up the pottery. Jeff and Cameron currently run a private financials trading company.

Aside from curling, the Queens enjoy skiing, reading, scrabble, writing, painting, hiking, cycling and fishing. One of their passions in Scotland was Munro Bagging( climbing the Scottish hills that are over 3,000 ft high). There are 284 Munros listed but the Queens have only managed about half of those. They were also very keen golfers, Jeff golfing at St Andrews, Carnoustie and Rosemount-Blairgowrie. They were both members at Braemar, where Prince Andrew was often seen whilst at Balmoral Castle. But they have decided that their new life in Canada should involve new adventures. Curling is the first of hopefully many new activities and they look forward to kayaking and learning to sail.

Cameron has a BSc in architecture from Dundee University and a Masters in Land Managenent/Rural Surveying from Aberdeen University. Louise did a BSc in nursing at Aberdeen and then nursed at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness. They were married in September 2008 at Leith Hall, a National Trust for Scotland home. They moved to Lunenburg in October 2008.
