Jamie Myra

Jamie Myra

Jamie was born in Lunenburg and started curling in the junior program at the age of 12 while he was attending Lunenburg Jr. High School. He curled in the Canadian Junior Championships in '87 and in the Canadian Firefighters Championships in 1992,1995 and 2007. The 1987 Canadian Junior Championship was the highlight of his curling career as the team he played on (Robert Smith, Jamie Myra, Ricky Crouse, Kurt Lohnes and coaches Ben Smith and Brian Fogelson) were not only a team but all good friends both on and off the ice. Another highlight from his Firefighters Championships was curling with his father, which was very enjoyable, as well as becoming great friends with some tremendous individuals -- Russell, Paul and Hewitt.

He was the first president of the club to serve 3 years. This was in the mid '90s. He currently stays involved with the club by co-chairing the annual Alpine Mariner Mixed with Kent Saunders, something they both have been doing for the past 12-14 years. Jamie’s sister, Jackie Lee Chisholm, and their father, Jim Myra, are well known regulars at the LCC.

Jamie Graduated from NS Community College with a Sales and Marketing diploma. He was the Assistant Manager of the Bluenose Golf Club for 18 years and currently functions as the club's Business Manager. Aside from his work at the family-owned Stan's Dad & Lad, he is a Lunenburg Town Councilor, a position which at times requires 2 to 3 lengthy meetings per week. He also holds the positions of 2nd Vice & Retail Chair at the Lunenburg Board of Trade.

Jamie's other interests include golf, where he currently holds the 9-hole course record (28) and shares the 18-hole record (62) with CPGA professional and fellow Lunenburger Jason Lohnes, and on occasion he finds time to read a book, usually a sports or political autobiography. This winter he could also be found spending time at the arena, as he was one of 7 fathers who volunteered to help coach his son's minor hockey team. And so, unfortunately, due to his many commitments he hasn't found much time to curl over the last few seasons.

Jamie and his wife, Sandra, married in 1996 and they have two children.
