Eric Miller

Eric Miller

Eric and his wife, Barbara, live in Maders Cove on a 59-acre spread which was once the site of the famous Green Shutters Inn. Eric ran Bill’s Department Store Ltd. in Mahone Bay before retiring in 2001. The store was founded by Barbara’s father, William Webber, in 1954 and operated out of the building now occupied by the Mahone Bay Trading Company.

Eric was born and raised in Lunenburg. He crewed on a scallop dragger before moving to Halifax for 5 years where he worked as an Assistant Manager of the Shoe Department at Robert Simpson Ltd. Returning to Mahone Bay, he opened his own shoe business within his father-in-law’s store and also ran a mail route for a short while. Later on he joined forces with William Webber.

Eric started curling in 1968 and joined the Lunenburg Curling Club in 1978. He has competed in the Johnston Cup and several senior events. He is on the Board of Directors of LCC where he is responsible for in-ice advertising, the 50-50 draws, the biennial yard sales, and obtaining the sponsors for the Friday Fun Nights. He also serves on the committees for the Triple Raise and the Curl For A Cause.

Off-season, Eric golfs. He is a Club Champion at the Blue Nose Golf Course. He owned a boat once but the boat interfered with his golf so he sold it. He spends a month at Myrtle Beach every April and this year he and Barbara were joined by Al and Cathy Kenney and Jim and Judy Myra.
Eric is a past president of the Blue Nose Golf Course and was the Chairman of the Driving Range Construction Committee.

Eric has also been a past president of the Western Shore Mahone Bay CBL Minor Hockey Association and sat on the St James Anglican Church Council.
