Dave was born on Corkums Island and would have attended the one-room schoolhouse on the island had it not been shut down in the late ‘40’s. Instead, he and 8 other islanders were chauffeured to and from the Lunenburg Academy every day by taxi. During his fifth grade he transferred to the newly built Centre Consolidated School which he attended through graduation. The jail, next door to the school, was in operation and a row of trees separated the two buildings. During school, low risk short term prisoners could be seen sitting on the lawn.

Dave earned a BSC at Acadia and a B Eng. in Mechanical Engineering at NS Technical College, now part of Dalhousie. In 1971, he joined the Lunenburg Foundry working on ship repairs and marine propulsion systems. Currently, he is a Vice President and a Director.

Dave began curling at university and joined the LCC in 1974. Elaine joined later and is currently a social member. Dave has been on the LCC Executive Board since 1974 and Ice Chairman for the past 30 years.

He was club president in 1980 and holds level 2 certificates in ice making, coaching, and officialing. He has run the Lunenburg Youthspiel for the past 20 years. In 2005 he earned the Joyce Myers Award for outstanding service to Nova Scotia Curling.
