January has come and gone and it was an active month
for LCC.
Playoffs were held in the first week of January.
Winners of the Day Ladies and the evening
schedules were crowned and their photos were promptly displayed on
our website.
Every Friday night our club was booked with curling.
The sponsors were The Friends of Corkums Island, the Day Ladies and
Adams and Knickle. Each night featured delicious food, fun curling
and great comraderie. Thank you to all the sponsors and to those
that worked to make each Friday Fun Night a success.
Last weekend the club hosted the 24th
annual Mariner Mixed Bonspiel. This year the event was sponsored by
Bud Light. Nineteen teams registered and the curling began Friday
night and ended Sunday at 5:20 p.m. The main event featuring the
undefeated teams went into an extra end and saw a team from
Bridgewater , skipped by Lunenburger Jason Mercer, defeat Mike
Robinson. For a list of all division winners and runners up, see our
web page and bulletin board.
The bonspiel was a huge success. Many of our members
curled in the event and a few members were called into spare. Jamie
Myra and Kent Saunders organized the spiel and they are to be
commended for their efforts. Numerous members and a couple of good
community citizens worked the kitchen, the ice, the score table as
well as provided food for the Friday night spread, the Saturday
dinner and Sunday brunch. On behalf of the LCC, I want to thank
everyone who contributed and volunteered to make the event a
success.
It was very impressive to see the membership come
together to support the event and be great hosts to many visiting
curlers. True Lunenburg hospitality!
