The curling season is fast approaching. The weather is
telling us to put away the golf clubs, gardening tools, and boats and
dust off the curling shoes and brooms. With any
luck, our ice will be in and ready for play by
October 26.
The ice plant was started on October 5, and the first
week went fairly normal. The initial floods were
done, the ice was painted white on the weekend and now the painting of
the circles and lines are underway. On Tuesday,
October 13, Stephen noticed a pressure drop in the system and together
with David and a technician from Cisco it was determined that we have a
leak in the condenser. They pumped the system up and
are watching it closely. It has been determined that
we are in need of a new condenser and this will be one of the topics to
be discussed at our semi annual meeting. The old one
lasted between 15 and 17 years and we knew this was the one of the last
major pieces of equipment that would need to be replaced in the near
future. Well the future arrived a little sooner than
expected. We are doing everything possible to keep
the old unit going and the ice plant running until a new one can be
purchased and delivered. Your attendance is
requested at the semi-annual meeting
on October 20, 2009 to discuss this issue and approve the
purchase of a new condenser.
Anyone who would like to make a donation to the Lunenburg
Athletic Facility Fund (LAFF), can do so at the town
office and these donations can be directed toward upgrades to our
curling club. Donations can also be given via our
registration form. Any donations will help maintain
our club and be gratefully accepted.

The 200
Club is a lottery and fundraiser held yearly by the Curling Club netting
approximately $3,900.00. Proceeds go directly to capital expenditures on
building and ice equipment. The cost remains as usual, $40 per ticket
with a chance to win prizes in 19 draws of $50, $30 and $20. The final
draw takes place at the Closing Awards Night with prizes of $1,000,
$500, $300 and $200. Non-members receive a social membership for the
season with the purchase of a draw ticket. Purchase tickets from Stephen
Rhodenizer at the Curling Club.

It was the goal of the match committee to attempt to
bring more singles and couples into the
Thursday night draw for fun social mixed curling.
It is not our intent to break up long standing teams.
We encouraged members to enter as singles or couples so we can
balance the teams and make sure new curlers can be matched with our
seasoned veterans. This will help new members to be
on competitive teams and help our club grow.
However, the match committee will try to fit some individuals/couples
together if they are very keen on curling together, just make your
preference known on your sign up sheet and the committee will try to
accommodate your preference.
This topic can also be discussed at the semi annual
meeting,
Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at 7 pm.

Have your sign up sheets in by
October 20, (they were emailed to most, mailed to some and are
available on the website or at the club).
Good curling to all. See you at the
meeting and later on the ice.
