Welcome back fellow curlers!! The curling season is just around the corner, yet we still have time to enjoy some fine fall weather. Soon enough we will be throwing rocks on that slippery surface. The executive of the Lunenburg Curling Club has met and made plans on the calendar to get our curling season going. We have set a target date of Monday, October 26 to have the ice ready for play. We will keep the members posted if any changes need to be made to that date. The Yard Sale and the Beer Garden were a couple of good fund raisers for our club this summer. Thank you to all those people who volunteered to make those events a success. When members return to the club this fall, you will notice the club room floor has been refinished and the lighting in the ice shed has been upgraded. You will not notice the continual maintenance that is required to keep our ice plant and sprinkler system working, but some of that work has been done as well. We also have plans to install new bumpers on the ice. In addition, we changed our beer sponsor and will have some new signage and a new draft on tap. Our goal is to have another fun filled year of curling and to make the most of the great facility we have. It is our intent to get a few more people into our Thursday night mixed draw. In the 90’s this was the most popular night and now it has the least amount of curlers. Rather than have team entry, we are looking for entries from individuals or couples. Then the match committee can make up the teams. This is being done to try to balance the teams and to encourage some of the newer curlers as well as the experienced ones to partake in Thursday mixed curling. Stay tuned for more updates on the opening bonspiel and other events. Until then, start stretching and get ready to ROCK the Lunenburg Curling Club. I am looking forward to seeing everyone back at the club. House & Property Report - Terry Lantz The replacement of the Grims valve has been done and the annual trip test of the alarm system has also been completed. The clubroom floor was refinished over the summer as well. We are still working on getting pricing for the painting of the ice shed. We are also looking into what is available for new bumpers. Lighting in the ice shed will be changed when the bulbs get put back in from the beer garden.
Masters Section Curling Director - Roger Shaw 634-3019 The Masters Program looks forward to another successful year of curling. Once again, the ice will be available for us each Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday morning throughout the season with an on-ice starting time of 9 am. Thursdays will be reserved for "competitive" curling with fixed teams through the year, each vying for the Morrow-Saunders Shield. We’ll also be honing our skills for home-and-away games against our usual six clubs, and hoping to improve upon our 2009 second place finish in the Rofhie Trophy.
